Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli is one of the most highly regarded Italian sopranos on the international early music scene. Trained at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and holding a master's degree from the Girolamo Frescobaldi Conservatory in Ferrara under Mirella Freni, she honed her craft alongside masters such as Luciano Pavarotti, Alessandra Molinari, Sonia Prina, Fernando Opa, and Vivica Genaux. She currently continues her advanced studies with Francesco Miotti.
Her career, strongly oriented towards the philological recovery of the Baroque and eighteenth-century repertoire, has seen her collaborate with some of the most prestigious orchestras and ensembles: from the Accademia Bizantina directed by Ottavio Dantone, to La Venexiana with Claudio Cavina, from the Complesso Barocco with Alan Curtis to Les Talens Lyriques with Christophe Rousset, up to Europa Galante with Fabio Biondi.
Francesca has performed at international festivals (including Styriarte in Graz, the Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt, the Handel Festspiele in Halle, and the Baroque Festival in Rome), distinguishing herself by her choice of leading roles in forgotten operas such as Francesco Cavalli's La Rosinda, Artemisia, and Veremonda, Sarro's Achille in Sciro, Cesti's La Dori, Gluck's Antigono, and Bohuslav Martinu's Mirandolina. Her résumé also includes Mozart titles such as Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro, Così fan tutte, and La clemenza di Tito.
In recent years, she has made her debut in prestigious halls and theaters such as the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Teatro Real in Madrid, recording numerous CDs for international labels such as Glossa, Oehms Classics, Berlin Classics, and Naxos. Francesca Lombardi Mazzulli, with her refined vocal style, philological commitment, and ability to combine historical rigor and emotional engagement, has established herself as a leading figure on the Baroque and Classical scene, transcending national and artistic boundaries to establish herself as a leading interpreter of the 18th-century repertoire.
